- 16 ounces dried green split peas
- 3 cups diced ham
- 1 carrot, peeled and diced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 rib celery, diced
- 8 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 3/4 tsp allspice
Rinse and sort peas. Combine all ingredients in a large slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 7-9 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.

You can substitute 1-1/2 lbs pork hocks or ham bone with meat for diced ham if desired. About an hour before soup is done cooking, remove pork hocks or ham bone and set aside to cool. Remove meat from bones and return to soup. Discard bones.
