Cake

  • 1 package devil’s food cake mix
  • 21-ounce can cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Icing

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 15″ x 10″ or 13″ x 9″ baking pan with no-stick spray. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine cake mix, pie filling, almond extract, and eggs. Stir by hand until well mixed.

Pour batter into pan. Bake for 20-30 minutes (15″ x 10″ pan) or 25-30 minutes (13″ x 9″ pan) until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Ice bars while still warm.

To prepare icing, add sugar, milk, and butter to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Pour over warm bars.
