• 3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Blend melted butter, sugar, and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Add eggs, beat well with a spoon. 

Combine flour, cocoa, and baking powder. Gradually add to egg mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if desired). Spread in a greased 8″ square baking pan.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from edges of pan. Cool completely, then cut into squares.
