• 6 slices sourdough bread, crusts removed if desired
  • 2 cups finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 4-ounce can diced green chiles

Lightly spray a 10″ x 6″ baking dish with no-stick spray. Cut the bread into 1/2″ cubes. Place half of the bread cubes in the baking dish, then top with half of the cheese. Repeat layers with the remaining bread and cheese.

In a medium bowl, beat together the milk, eggs, and dry mustard until well combined. Stir in the chiles. Pour the milk mixture over the cheese and bread in the dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Remove from refrigerator and uncover. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake the strata, uncovered, for 45 minutes or until puffy. Serve immediately.

Note: You can add 1 cup diced cooked bacon, ham, or sausage for a heartier dish. Include it in the layering process with the bread and cheese, adding it after the bread and before the cheese in each layer.
